The marvelous volcanic complex of Cabo de Gata on the Almeria coast belongs to a much larger area that is submerged in the Mediterranean. When the volcanism began, the towns of Vera, Níjar and Almería were covered by the sea and the coast reached the Sierra de Filabres.
